What did you do for Thanksgiving....

You know, the number of times I was asked that question this year was insane....beyond my previous years' experience. And no one ever liked the answer. "Nothing" I really did nothing. I don't have any local family. I had to work on Friday, and couldn't have traveled to unlocal family if I had wanted to. BF was with the wife's family, which, some of you may remember, I was uninvited to several years ago. So, I spent the day alone. It was just a day off from work. I made and ate chips and salsa, I slept in til 2. That was my Thanksgiving.

Our boss was kind enough to give us one day off to use between the Monday before Thanksgiving and today, I chose today, so, I have today off as well, yay. I'm doing housework, it was nice not to have to do it all weekend, knowing I could do it today.

I also went and got the BF's major Christmas gift. Sorry, won't say what it is :) Ask me after Christmas.

Infertility, you are not alone!

This is really a cool idea....

From the website linked below

For anyone who has ever had a miscarriage, struggled with pregnancy, and all things infertile...there is a movement upon us that you might want to join. It's rather simple actually: a discreet ribbon on your right wrist to signal to others that they are not alone in their struggles.

As someone who has had 5 m/c but am currently 5 months pregnant (YEAH), I wonder who looks at my big belly with sadness because they are in the month-to-month struggle. I mentioned to a friend that I wished there was some secret nod or international sign as if to say, this belly was hardwon. Well, she posted this quandary on her blog (http://www.stirrup-queens.blogspot.com/) and the response has been quite overwhelming...and a movement has been born!

The pomegranate-colored thread holds a two-fold purpose: to identify and create community between those experiencing infertility as well as create a starting point for a conversation. Women pregnant through any means, natural or A.R.T., families created through adoption or surrogacy, or couples trying to conceive during infertility or secondary infertility can wear the thread, identifying themselves to others in this silent community. At the same time, the string serves as a gateway to conversations about infertility when people inquire about its purpose. These conversations are imperative if we are ever to remove the social stigma attached to infertility.Tie on the thread because you’re not alone. Wear to make aware. Join us in starting this conversation about infertility by purchasingthis pomegranate-coloured thread (#814 by DMC) at any craft, knitting, or variety store such as Walmart or Target. Tie it on your right wrist. Notice it on others. Just thought I would pass the word along!

Lastly, we have a graphic people can add to their side bars in order to get the word out (and create a link to this post or a similar one so people understand what Infertility's Common Thread is about). Feel free to take and place on your blog or create your own in order to get the word out to others:

http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4171/3241/200/Thread.2.jpg

and please add a link back to this post: http://stirrup-queens.blogspot.com/2006/09/history-of-infertilitys-common-thread.html.

ChaCha?!

Okay,

I admit I’m not usually the first to figure out new and cool things on the internet. I got referred by a friend to work online at a place called ChaCha. I figured, yeah, right, its just another internet work at home job scam right? But, I found out, no, its legitimate! Wow! I figured I’d share in case anyone else is looking for something to do while they’re at home playing on the internet anyway. Yes, it is a deal where I get a small bonus when people I refer sign up and work, however, my main motivation is just to share this coolness with others. IF you’d like to be on my ‘team’ and put me as your referrer, that would be neat. My email is manxafrica@qwest.net there. ChaCha is a phone based information source. Kind of a text based Google. Except you text questions to the system (242242 is the number you use, its free, give it a shot!) and then they are farmed out to logged in Guides who look up the answers and send them back through the web. I get everything from “What’s the phone number to Jim’s Pizza in St. Louis, IL” to “What was the score in today’s Cub’s game” as well as teenagers asking really crazy things (including what’s the world’s largest penis, which I get regularly). They pay 10 cents an inquiry, unless you meet a minimum of 300 inquiries in a week and a certain quality requirement, then you get 20 cents an inquiry for the following week. I just started this week and I’ve already made $25.00 and I’m not even trying very hard! So, if you want any more information, you can ask on list or off list. If you want to sign up, they do have you take some tests, and I’d be happy to talk to you about those, too! You can also catch me on yahoo messenger at manxafrica if you’d rather chat about it. I just figured I’d share since I’m always interested in ways to earn a couple extra bucks!! Thanks J

Update - missing daughter

I realized, reading through my most recent posts, that I did not come back to let everyone know that my friend's daughter was found. She had traveled to California, and was held in detention for a while there and then returned home! Yay!

Closure

We had Bob's memorial service yesterday. It was nice. It wasn't so much a service as a family get together and memory sharing. We did have a Navy service person to do the military honors for Bob. I have pictures at:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/27692551@N04/

Thank you to EVERYONE who offered kind words. I really needed them. Here's
a bit of an update for those who are interested.

It seems that Bob was at the home of a friend of his. He turned up acting
drunk and disoriented The friend assumed it was a blood sugar thing and
gave him OJ. After an undetermined amount of time, he stopped breathing.
The friend called 911. Bob was in the hospital for 10 days total, and never
regained consciousness at all. They had resuscitated him a few times in
those 10 days. My mom and he had had conversations and she knew that he
would not want extraordinary measures taken. His mind was gone. HE was
gone. She had medical power of attorney. She put a DNR order in place. It
was 2 hours after she got there that he died (again). This time, they did
not revive him.

She was doing better today. His brother will be landing soon to start
making arrangements. Its so harsh that the fact that they have lived
together for 10 years means nothing to anyone of authority in this time.

He was a motorcycle fanatic. My mom was able to get his bike back from the
friend, who seemed to think he would get to keep it now. Mom said 'I know
he would be far more concerned about what happened to his bike than what
happened to his body.'

His brother thinks that he'll take his ashes for "one last ride" and scatter
him to the wind from the bike. Its very, very fitting for him.

Not the best day I've had

Okay, so, today has not been the best day I've had. This WEEK has not been the best I've had.

Monday a bunch of people were out of work. Some with Influenza A, some with kids with Influenza A and some out on vacation. All kinds of chaos ensued. We lived through it.

Yesterday the old dog was not doing well. She couldn't stand up or lay down unassisted. She was taken to the vet and received some steroid shots to see if it would alleviate the pain. It didn't really help her.

Today while waiting for news of the dog, I check my phone and realize I missed a call from my mother last night at 12:46. Now, usually a late night call from mom means she's been drinking and needs someone to listen to her ramblings. I pick up the message and get a shock. Her boyfriend of 10 years died last night. He had been missing for a couple weeks. She reported him missing. She got a bill in the mail from the local Fire and Rescue. She calls, she tracks him down to a trauma hospital. She arrived in the nick of time, a mere 2 hours before he died. Thank God she got the bill, thank God she got there in time. If she hadn't I don't think she would have survived the pain and guilt. The rest of the story is a bunch of unknowns. She's trying to get things in order and find out what happened. But, since they weren't married, she doesn't have many rights to information. She's waiting for one of the brothers to get there.

After I get over this shock, I get news that the old dog has just thrown up her dinner, undigested, from the night before. Its time to do the right thing. She is taken to the vet for the last goodbye.

I relay all of this in time to my boss, who, of course, tells me that I really can leave if I need to. I was glad, I got to go and be graveside for the dog's burial. That helped me not feel so disconnected since I wasn't there to say goodbye in the vet's office. I cried on my boss's desk, I cried on my desk, and I cried on the supervisor's desk. I really, really didn't think any of it would hit me that hard. But, I was very wrong.

The worst part now is trying to help my mom deal from afar. My mom is one of the strongest people I know, and she said to me this morning "I don't feel strong, I just feel alone. We knew it was coming, but, I wasn't ready." Mom, no one is ever ready. The boyfriend had several medical issues including uncontrolled diabetes and a drinking habit, but, still....and with all the confusion around the circumstances, I can't imagine what she's going through. She kept saying 'What if I hadn't gotten the bill?" and "He waited for me." I'm so glad she got there. I don't think he was cognizant but, I'm still glad she got to say good bye.

So, good bye dear old dog, and good bye strange man who loved my mother more than anything.

Wrist fun...

Some of you are aware that I broke my right wrist several years ago, horsing around with Man and punching him in the arm. Well, for several years I've had a strange bump on the back side of my left wrist. My doctor thought it was a cyst and tried to aspirate it, with no success. I ignored it for a while, as, while it looked odd, it did me no harm. It has started to bother me as of late. I went back to the fantastic wrist specialist who handled my broken wrist, he ordered some x-rays, some x-rays with dye, and an MRI, and some right wrist x-rays to follow up on the break.

Today I get the results. I have a TFCC tear. I learned much about wrist anatomy today researching this item. I have a type 4 tear, a tear where the TFCC carteledge connects to the radial bone. My specialist has indicated that this will need some surgical repair at some point. Its not urgent, but, should not wait too long as it will only degenerate further. I also have some issues with the scapho-lunate tendon, which had a fancy name I did not manage to remember.

Once surgery is complete, I will be in a full arm cast for 6 weeks, then a short arm cast for 2 weeks, then in PT for 1 - 2 months.

Fortunately, I can schedule this when it is convenient to me rather than any kind of immediate need. The mitigating issue would be if it starts to cause me pain or interfere with my daily activities.

I have never had surgery, and anesthesia really scares the crap out of me. I am hoping to be able to do this in the fall or early winter, when I'm not trying to travel for work.

The right wrist healed up okay, but, the scaphoid bone I broke is not aligned correctly, indicating that the scapho-lunate tendon has some damage to it as well, and some day will likely need surgical repair, but, it can wait until it starts to bother me someday, if ever.

In all, I have lame messed up wrists. Go me!

A few things...

A few things to update the world, both good and bad.

First, I have a new job position at work. This involves a move from hourly to salary, a significant raise, and a few other perks. I'm going to be the Field Representative, traveling Wyoming, and explaining to medical providers how to help make their Medicaid billing more efficient and accurate.

Second, my cousin's getting married in August, and we are going to Minneapolis. This includes our managing to score pre season tickets to a Viking game. I've never been to a football game of any kind, so, that should be fun.

Third, a very good friend of mine had to have her cat put to sleep this morning. Carmen (the cat) was not herself on Friday, and had succumbed to a kidney failure of unknown origin. The vet found her unresponsive this morning, and she was laid to rest. This is sad. I have known this cat for almost 8 years now.

Finally, this weekend, a great tragedy happened here in Cheyenne to a good friend of several of my friends. Read the CNN story: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/07/16/singer.shot.ap/index.html

And now, you are all updated!

Love!

Okay, I had been a little worried. Ever since Toby went under his own record label, his music's been a bit....odd. But his newest song, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLOIhefuYro

Sharing Books

Hey Everyone! I know that a lot of you are just as avid of readers as I am, but, sometimes the budget just doesn’t hold up to the desire for buying and reading books, and waiting for the library can take forever at times! Well, I have been trying out a new site where you can share your books with others, in a trade. www.paperbackswap.com. I think its pretty neat, I’m already involved in a few swaps. If you want to look me up on there, my ID is Wyomingblonde. I just thought I’d share such a neat place with my friends down south!

Question of the day...

I ponder...do ants sleep?

The other night I was out watering th garden, and the ants were still tromping around.

Today, the exterminator was supposed to come after work and kill the biting swarming ants in my back yard. He never showed. I shall call tomorrow and ask him what happened, and express my displeasure in arranging my schedule for his lack of showng.

Paradise Lost?

Have you ever met someone, and felt a really deep and unexplainable connection with them?

I'm having something of an issue letting go of something. Let me tell a story.

Back in late April, I started chatting online with a guy named Morgen, who saw my profile on Yahoo, and thought he'd like to meet. As always, I take things like this cautiously. We chatted for a few weeks, then agreed to meet. Well, I had selected a Thursday, but, then, I realized that that wouldn't work as my friend's play was the same day. We rescheduled to the following week. After not hearing from him, I thought perhapse we had nothing going on, and so, I left him an offline that said I felt he had canceled. He hadn't, he'd just been very busy. We rescheduled for Friday. We met. Dinner was fantastic. We got along very well. After dinner we went to the bowling alley, played (I won!) and talked. He kissed me good night. It all went very, very well.

We discussed getting together again, however, I was going on vacation, and he was working many days in a row. We talked on the phone one Thursday. He thought he might be able to get up here Friday after work. We ended with his promise he would call or text when he was free after work.

That message never came.

I have left several voicemails, several offline messages on Yahoo, and several texts, and still, nothing. We went on vacation, to Vegas, for a week. Got back May 27th. Still nothing.

I left another message, and nothing. I have not seen him online since.

Today is June 9th. To date, I have heard nothing from him. Yesterday I tried his phone again. Rather than getting his voicemail, I got the message that stated that this person was currently unavailable, as if the phone service had been disconnected.

I have this deep seated fear that something awful had happened to him, and I'll never know.

I don't know much about him, and no way to get ahold of him. His name is Morgen. Last initial D. I know his Yahoo ID. He lives in Longmont, CO. He is 23. He works for Xcel, doing shiftwork.

I SHOULD be able to decide that maybe I wasn't right for him, or something came up, or whatever. But, the evidence says something bad happened. I won't ever be able to know. And I can't let go of that. I can't help but feel like I lost something very significant that might have been.

This is the connection I felt with him. I cannot let it go. I feel like I lost a long time friend, not someone I'd met but once.

I'm not sure what to do. I went as far as messaging the 2 friends he had listed on his Yahoo 360 profile, but, no response from them.

What do I do? How do I handle this? What could possibly have happened?

If I had an SCA resume....

Okay, this post will likely only mean something to those of you in the SCA, however, wow!

I am the person in my shire who is always asked to run kitchen clean up. I was selected for this glorious position because the first time I did it, I went in the kitchen and threw the cooks out. They'd been cooking all day, and therefore, in MY mind, had no business cleaning up. From this moment on, they decided this was a good thing. Occasionally someone gets obstinant and I have to throw them out 10 different times because they keep trying to help. I gather up people who have eaten the fabulous food and now want to offer thanks. With about 6 people, its really an easy task. Bag the food, wash and dry the dishes, get them out of the kitchen. The cooks help sort out whose items are whose and where they go. Clean the surfaces, remove the trash, clean the floor, tada we're done! Well, sometimes I have to struggle to get 6 people. The last event, I had to ask 3 times for help, and at the third time, I ended up with, not your usual semi new and generally non awarded people, but, instead, the King's Herold finished his announcement, and came in to do dishes, followed by the King, several Masters, Mistresses, Barons, Baronesses, etc. I thought THAT was amazing at the time (yes I tried to kick the king out of the kitchen, but, he declined my suggestion). Well, last night we had another event. I didn't ever think that the previous cleaning crew could be trumped. I was proven wrong. Last night's event coincided with the Board of Director's meeting here in Cheyenne. They did not come for feast, they all went out to dinner to discuss some business, but then they showed up at the event to hang out for a while. When the announcement for volunteers was made for kitchen clean up, I was greeted by about 10 or 12 people I didn't know. Now, it took me only seconds to realize, these were not newbies that I'd never met. (Something about medalions, white belts, and coronets gave it away....). I had the SCA BOARD OF DIRECTORS volunterring to clean my kichen!?!?!?! They didn't even eat! Needless to say, it was the most fun, and world record fastest time cleaning a kitchen ever! My undying thanks to those individuals, none of whom I know even their names! It was joked several times last night I could say I ran my first board meeting, since I was the one directing. I had more help than tasks at times, and that alone was a miracle, but, the idenities of the people voluntering to help is what totally made my night!

I must also add that there were several local people in the kitchen, and one to whom I must say extra thanks. Our very own Cathyn was the first person to jump up and run to assist in the kitchen. Many, many thanks to you as well!

Long Lost?

Okay,

I have this friend from high school. At least two people I know here know her. She lives in Tucson. I've sent her 6 or 8 emails over the last 2 years trying to reestablish contact with her. I haven't heard a single word of reply. Now this could be because
A) I have the wrong email address. However, she's still going to school at the school I have the email address for.

B) I did something that offended her so badly she doesn't want to even talk to me anymore (though I have NO idea what that might be).

C) She outgrew me?

D) She's not getting my messages for some reason

E) Something else.

I don't have a phone number (and that might be awkward if its really B or C) or address. Any ideas?

Those who know who I'm talking about, do you have good contact info for her?

Any ideas?
